My sleep schedule still has not recovered from this event, but I have no regrets.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your community year after year. I do this with the hope that my photos help you all remember how amazing this community makes us all feel once we go home and the “jesus high” fades.

Please share! I'm not as picky about these photos as I am about the rest of my work, but I still appreciate when you give me credit for my photos because a) I love to see you sharing them and b) it helps my business. I'm on all the websites.

Please don’t put filters on my photos. I know it’s tempting, but I spend about 8 hours editing an event like this, tweaking them until they’re just how I like them. (Cropping and b&w is fair game.)

Virginia Synod Assembly 2018

Church EventsSarah Vogl

The Virginia Synod Youth Assembly was my first ever youth event when I was in 7th grade. (I'm 23 now.) Dave asked me to be a LYO Board member and I kept coming back to events ever since, regardless of the status of my faith. As an adult I carved out a role for myself taking these candid artsy event pictures and it's honestly what got me into photography in general.

This year was special because I was asked by the synod office to photograph the main assembly. Being the official photographer for the event as well assuming my usual role as a volunteer at the youth event (in a way, two events at once!) was a lot fun for me. I loved jumping between both assemblies to capture the highlights of both and photograph as many beautiful faces as I could.

This is a selection of a hundred thirty-ish of my favorites. But if you were at the event and you wanna see all the photos, you can view them here on my flickr. If you'd like to be able to download all of the photos for personal use, please feel free to shoot me an email and I'll share my google drive link with you.

David's one of those people from college who you could count on to show up at a party and perform an impromptu live show for everyone. Be sure to check out his music. This track gets better every time I listen to it.

Roanoke College Garden

Design, Commercial Photography, Logo DesignSarah Vogl

While I attended Roanoke College, many of my friend group were involved in the new club started by one of my best friends. Their mission is to teach the campus about sustainability while providing organic local produce to the Roanoke food bank.

I was commissioned to design the logo for the organization, as well as a few other branded promotional materials. I also spent time taking pictures on garden work days for us on their Facebook page

In early meetings we emphasized the importance of a presence on Facebook to keep the students and local community involved on the garden's progress. I'm proud that this habit has been passed down between the leaders of the garden so far. Another student-run organic garden even reached out to them for advice on starting a garden on their own campus.
